Just another reason to hate the NBA...
As if it's not hard enough to watch those overpaid assholes play "basketball", then they have to go do something like this. This was a full scale brawl. Then they have the nerve to blame it on the fans...right... More coverage here.

Lucero was definitely worth the trip...
So on Wednesday night I took a drive to Lawrence to go to a concert with Mr. Tom Byrne and some other guys. Tom has had me listen to this band every time I go Lawrence for the last few months so I knew that I at least had to go see them live to see what all the fuss was about. I knew I was in for a little trouble when I got to Lawrence and the guys were already drunk. Then the next wave of "good news" was that the Bottleneck was having $1.50 Boulevards. (mind you I had to work at 8 the next morning). The band was definitely worth seeing. Tom said before the show that afterwards he would have "Tears and a Boner". That's how excited he was about this concert. The band was very good and I remembered some of the songs from the night Tom was really drunk and we sat parked on the side of 8th street and listened to this band in the dark. All in all, it was a great night and Tom even got to buy the lead singer a drink. I didn't stay to watch Tom live out his dream. He may have some pictures or some memento from the joyous occasion that I could displayy here but at this time, I have nothing. It was a great time by all and I really hope that Tom didn't have "tears and a boner" while he was drinking with the lead singer...

I swear...people in this world are just digging for something to whine about...
I am sure that by now you have all heard about the Monday Night Football intro that has everyone whining and bitching. I've heard everything from people saying that it was pornographic to the head coach of the Colts saying it was "racist". I just don't understand. Do these people just sit there and watch children's videos all day? This wasn't anything different than you would see watching any network television after 8:00 pm. What is this world coming to? You can watch it here.

I would NEVER treat Scarlett Johansson like this...
Man...some guys have all the luck. And apparently Jared Leto, even though he's about as famous as I am, gets enough ass that he can check his text messages while he is kissing Scarlett Johnansson. Ain't that some shit...
Too lazy to actually get out of your chair to go target shooting?
Well we have a solution for you. How about you just pay this company and then you can control a camera that is mounted to a firearm and you can shoot at paper targets, in real time mind you. Now I am not exactly a firearm advocate but I do know people that are quite avid hunters and target shooters that might get a kick out of this...I guess... http://www.live-shot.com (Found on Wonkette and Gawker)
Yeah..hmmm...no Weapons of Mass Destruction huh?
Now...I find it a little odd that this type of picture gets hidden in some USA Today Photo Spread but this is exactly what the troops are supposed to be looking for in Iraq and for some reason, no one reports that these things are being found. Check out the second picture in this photo spread: http://www.usatoday.com/news/graphics/phantom_fury/flash.htm
And you thought Americans were passionate about sports...
Last weekend after Paul McCallum missed two field goals (one in overtime to win the game) in a playoff game for the Saskatchewan Roughriders he got eggs and cow manure dumped on his lawn. See, this is just another argument as to why the NHL needs to get going again. Anyway, this happened within an hour of him missing the field goals. These damn Canadians found the kicker's house...and while his wife was at home, threw eggs at the house. While the woman and friends were outside cleaning up the eggs, a truck stopped and dropped a load of COW MANURE in the guy's lawn. Now come on. Anyway, after all this happened, you would think that his General Manager would have stood behind him with the usual "Win as a team, Lose as a team" crap that most would say, but no. Here are the comments from Roy Shivers, the General Manager: "It's fair to blame [McCallum]," Shivers said, as quoted in the Leader-Post in Regina. "It's a team game, you're supposed to do your job. All I ask is for everybody to do their jobs. He didn't do his job today. There was nothing wrong with the snap, nothing wrong with the hold, I don't want to hear that," Shivers continued. "We had 39 other guys busting their asses off and we get let down." The guy basically threw the kicker under the bus, as if he wasn't already feeling like shit. At least he got a little support from his coach: "Let's make this perfectly clear: It didn't come down to [McCallum]. We had more than one opportunity." You can read more about the story here.
If Tivo doesn't watch it...they're gonna ruin a good thing
Now...I am sure that all of you know how excited I was about my purchase of a Tivo system. It really is a great thing just the way it is. The problem is that they are really trying to ruin a good thing. I don't know if you have heard about Congress considering a bill that would make it illegal to fast-forward through commercials on DVDs but now Tivo is getting in on this too. Lately during commercials sometimes there are little icons that you can select that will give you even more information about the product that the commercial is about. This is a deal that Tivo has with the company. I have seen this quite a bit with Chevrolet. Anyway, now they are working on a deal where there will be a billboard advertisement on the screen WHILE you fast forward through the commercials on your program you are watching. Now that really pisses me off. Nothing can be more aggravating than getting a commercial on the screen while you fast forward through commercials. You can read more about it here.
Shawn Fanning (Napster) is definitely taking a different road...
Apparently he has created a company named Snocap that is going to turn illegal file sharers into paying customers. This seems like quite a change compared to how this guy started out... http://news.com.com/Music+rebels+seek+to+tame+P2P/2100-1025_3-5453788.html
Abercrombie & Fitch just became a $40 million example
I don't know if any of you have heard about this story but it seems pretty shady to me. I just don't feel that what the NAACP is doing for minorities is especially good for their ultimate "cause" of becoming equal. Forcing companies to hire minority employees and place minorities in their catalogs just seems like one step back in their fight. I may be alone in thinking that...but it's how I feel. Here is the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/17/national/17settle.html I mean...I don't see any problems with their advertising...do you?
Being a Kansas City sports fan hurts...
Well...actually...being a fan of any sports team in Kansas City brings with it a little bit of pain. I am a die-hard Royals, Chiefs, and Jayhawks fan. That doesn't bode well for me in the summer and early fall. Let's go through this. The Royals...predicted to have a good year...but failed miserably. I still went out there to watch them play. At first, I lived and died with that team...and then after a while I just went numb. At this point, I take the familiar stance "well, the Chiefs are starting soon...it will be better then". Now any of you who have watched the Chiefs play this season know that it has been a less than stellar season. We're 3-6 now and I have had to watch Trent Green get sacked on the last play of the game TWO GAMES IN A ROW!!! Then there is the Kansas Jayhawks. The football team has been getting better every year and this year it just seems that they are taunting me. I was at the KU- KState football game this year and I got a little bit excited when they beat a lackluster K-State Wildcats team. That was huge win for the team. Then they proceed to go on the road and lose to OU (understandably) and IOWA STATE, who somehow now has a chance to win the Big 12 North. After they come home and lose a weak game to Colorado, they played Texas. Now anyone could've seen the blowout coming but I went to the game anyway...and if it weren't for a bad pass interference call and a 4th and 18 run by Vince Young...KU pulls out an upset over the #7 team in the country. DAMNIT!!! I AM DOOMED!!! Now I have to wait and see if the preseason #1 ranked Jayhawks basketball team can give me my fix. (We all know that the preseason #1 ranking isn't exactly a good thing...)
Firefox is the web browser of the present...and future
I don't know how many of you guys are on the computer as much as I am, but when you are on the internet all day like I am...you tend to find things like this. Firefox is a web browser, like Internet Explorer, that is above and beyone anything that Microsoft could possibly release. They just released their first "final" version of the program and it is great. There are many add-ons that you can add to the program as you wish like weather updates and digital music players. Another thing that is nice is that you can download other themes to change the look of the browser. There are many out there and everything can be downloaded through the browser program itself. It is a beautiful thing. I know some of you are technofiles like I am so this will be good news to you. Also...with Firefox you can use "live bookmarks" that will show you when I update my weblog (or you can save other weblogs or news sources...LIKE KANSAN.COM to update automatically)...you know how exciting that is don't you. Well...you can find it here: http://www.mozilla.org/

This won't be about one event, it will be about many. I haven't updated in quite a while. Let's see... School is pretty busy these days, not that it is unheard of for that to happen. I got a 92% on my theology mid-term but I also started my other class about 3 weeks ago. Now...new classes should be fun right...well...no. The teacher has more degrees and certificates than you can throw the kitchen sink at...but...she couldn't teach her way out of the bathroom. I hate it when people this smart think that they teach their skills to other people. You would think that you would have to prove yourself in the teaching profession...obviously not. Next...the funeral. Pammy's funeral was by far one of the most surreal things that I have done in a while. I realize that no one really knows exactly what to do when it comes to funerals...but I feel much more awkward at them than you can imagine. I really loved Pammy and I was crushed when I found out that she had passed away. This isn't confusing to me. Death isn't something that a lot of people know how to deal with, so I understand that I don't exactly know what to do when someone is suddenly taken from you. The confusion part came when I got to Nebraska and found out how she died. I have my own views on this and it just and it basically caused me to add another emotion to my full plate. Anger. I don't understand how someone could do that to themselves...when they have so many people in their life that care about them like she did. I don't pretend to understand anything out the situation, so don't take my comments as anything more than opinion. Either way I look at it...I lost someone that I care about very much. I lost one of my biggest fans. Third...Amanda came into town. I am really glad that Amanda came into town because her and I always have some great discussions. At least I think we do. We talked about everything from her crowded love life to me going back to school. I don't know if it is because we only see each other about once per year or what, but we really can have some good conversations. She looked amazing as always...actually better than I remember which would've been hard to do. She's got her shit together and she's smarter than I could ever hope to be. Now that's attractive. Well, she has her plate full so I don't think that I need to contribute to it. Well...that's about it I think. I am extremely tired but I don't have class tomorrow night so after work I can just relax........and do homework. How lovely is that? Maybe I should have thought about that when I was neglecting my homework the first time I went to college...haha
